Theodor Alescha was born in 1898 in Vienna. After his study at the Wiener Akademie der Bildenden Künste he continued his studies as an autodidact. Since 1918 he travelled trough Europe. At the exhibitions of the Hagenbund his colleagues and collectors were impressed by his paintings of landscapes. In 1934 he went to Switzerland and in 1941 on to France, Spain and Portugal from where he emigrated to the USA. 1947 Alescha followed the invitation of the Viennese cultural city councillor Viktor Matejka and came back to Vienna, where he received a studio from the city and sold varies works to the state. In 1984 his work was shown in a big one-man exhibition in the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere. Theodor Alescha died in 1991 in Lilienfeld.
